Are you over the ‘New Year, New You’ messages?
I know I am!
I mean, why do articles and advertisers always imply there’s something terribly wrong with the ‘old’ us that needs fixing?
So, this New Year, let’s forget about the ‘new you’ and celebrate the amazing, passionate, creative, natural beauties we already are. Am I right?
How to Celebrate YOU
As we usher in a new year, it’s the perfect time to prioritise your well-being and step into the coming months with renewed energy and self-confidence.
I know, like me, you’re passionate about natural health, essential oils, and eliminating chemical nasties from your life, so here’s a comprehensive 7-point plan to kickstart your new year naturally with vitality and poise.
1: Nourish Your Body with Whole Foods
This is where it all begins! Like most people, I confess I indulged a little over the Christmas season. This year I decided to ditch the guilt and enjoy the pleasure! And that’s okay. But now my body is craving real, healthy food.
So, kick off your new year with a focus on nourishing your body with whole foods. It’s all about balance, so opt for a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains and you can’t go wrong.
Make sure you’re getting plenty of essential nutrients like vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. And consider incorporating superfoods like berries, leafy greens, and nuts into your meals to boost energy levels and support your overall health. Your body will thank you!
2: Hydrate for Vitality
Ever found yourself feeling sluggish, blah and a bit headache-y?
Nine times out of ten that’s because you’re dehydrated, especially at this time of the year. And it sneaks up on you! It turns out you’re starting to get dehydrated before you start feeling thirsty.
Proper hydration is key to maintaining energy levels and supporting your overall well-being. Your car runs on petrol (or maybe you’re rocking an EV?), but your body runs on water. Staying hydrated will help keep your skin healthy, support digestion, improve concentration and brain function, and assist you to perform better physically.
So, start your day with a glass of water or two and aim to stay adequately hydrated throughout the day.
Consider infusing your water with slices of citrus fruits, cucumber, or mint for added flavour and additional health benefits. I often add a drop or two of essential oil – Lemon, Orange, Lime and Grapefruit are some of my faves – to my water bottle when I’m out and about.
Hydration plays a crucial role in promoting healthy skin, supporting digestion, and maintaining energy levels.
3: Prioritize Quality Sleep
We deserve a good night’s sleep! Agree?
Quality sleep is foundational to overall wellness and energy levels. Yes, things can get a little crazy over the holiday period and routines tend to go out the window. But as you settle into the new year try to establish a consistent sleep routine by going to bed and waking up at the same time each day.
Do you often find yourself racing around like crazy and then falling into bed exhausted? I hear you! But the research shows that your sleep will suffer when you constantly keep that schedule.
So, if you want to kickstart your new year, try to create a calming bedtime routine, such as reading a book or practicing relaxation techniques, to signal to your body that it’s time to wind down. That doesn’t have to take a long time – it’s all about creating that transition between crazy and crashed out so that you can enjoy quality, restful, refreshing sleep.
I LOVE to use essential oils to supercharge my sleep. Find out exactly how to do that here:
Oh, and invest in a comfortable mattress and pillows to enhance your sleep. We bought some quality rubber pillows and were amazed at what a great investment they’ve been!
4: Embrace the Power of Essential Oils
I know I’m talking to the converted here. But sometimes we forget to harness the therapeutic benefits of essential oils. And I don’t just mean for your physical wellbeing. Whether it’s oils to improve concentration, to sleep better, for emotional balance or healing, or to spice things up in the bedroom, there truly is an oil for just about everything.
If you’re just getting started, try incorporating essential oils like Lavender, Peppermint, and the citrus oils into your daily routine. It’s so easy to diffuse them in your living spaces, add a few drops to your bath, or even create your own personalised roller blends.
Essential oils can help reduce stress, improve mood, and boost your overall sense of well-being. And if you want to know more about how to use essential oils, check out the wealth of information and recipes on my website.
5: Move Your Body Regularly
How do you like to move it, move it?
Physical activity is a natural energy booster and mood enhancer. The more research they do the more health professionals discover that moving your body regularly benefits and improves every part of your life.
The secret is finding activities that you enjoy, whether it’s brisk walking, dancing, yoga, Zumba, Crossfit, taking the dog for a walk, or any other form of exercise.
Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate intensity exercise most days of the week.
How do you know it’s moderate intensity? You still have just enough breath to keep up a conversation.
We’ve started walking in the mornings and it’s become a habit. As well as getting the blood pumping and the body moving, we find it’s also a good time to connect and talk about what’s happening in our lives. Plus, we can enjoy a little serenity before the craziness begins!
The great thing is regular physical activity not only increases your energy levels but also contributes to improved self-confidence and overall mental well-being.
6: Cultivate a Positive Mindset
I almost said that this one is a no-brainer!
I love what Renee Dutton said: “In a world filled with darkness, positivity becomes the guiding light that illuminates the path towards a brighter future.”
The secret here is to cultivate positive thinking. Your brain is like a garden and you can choose what grows and blossoms there. You can plant positive thoughts and you can choose to weed out negative ones.
Try practising gratitude daily by reflecting on the positive aspects of your life and writing them down in your journal. Challenge negative thoughts and replace them with affirmations that empower and uplift you.
Surround yourself with positive influences, whether it’s through supportive relationships, inspirational books, or uplifting podcasts.
And don’t forget to celebrate you! Celebrate your successes, be grateful for your strengths and be thankful for the lessons you learn along the way and the growth they bring with them.
7: Invest in Self-Care
If you take nothing else into this new year, remember this: you are worth it!
Self-care is a powerful tool for enhancing wellness and self-confidence. And taking care of yourself is not a luxury, it’s a necessity.
So, set aside dedicated time for activities that bring you joy and relaxation. This could include indulging in a favourite hobby, spending time in nature, or pampering yourself with a spa day at home. Prioritise self-care as a non-negotiable part of your routine to recharge and boost your overall well-being.
Celebrate You and Bring On the New Year!
As you embrace a new year full of possibilities and challenges don’t be afraid to reach out. I’m here for you and I’m cheering you on.
So, here’s to a year filled with vitality, well-being, and the confidence to embrace your awesome self!
