Shaving Foam Secrets

All natural shaving foam

Why do I make my own shaving foam? Basically because all the ones in the shops contain nasty ingredients that mess with hormones like:

  • Fragrance.
  • Ethanolamines.
  • Parabens.
  • Petroleum-based ingredients: PEG ingredients. petrolatum. polysorbate ingredients. propylene glycol.
  • Methylchloroisothiazolinone.
  • Sodium Lauryl Sulfate.
  • Sodium Laureth Sulfate.

Read more about how these nasty chemicals mess with your hormones here.

So what ingredients do I use in my all natural shaving foam?

Castile Liquid Soap

Castile soap is a versatile vegetable-based soap that’s made free of animal fats and synthetic ingredients. It does not contain Sodium Lauryl Sulfate or Sodium Laureth Sulfate which is what gives most foaming soaps and shaving foams their froth.

Distilled water

I use distilled water in most of my handmade DIY products as tap water can contain bacteria which will cause your products to go off earlier than they should.

Salt

Salt is also a natural preservative.

Pure aloe vera gel

Pure aloe vera gel has many plant compounds, antioxidant and antibacterial properties. It accelerates wound healing so I love to add it to this Shaving Foam recipe.

Vegetable glycerine

Vegetable glycerine may act as a moisturiser, reduce skin irritation, protect against infection and boost wound healing.

Vitamin E capsules

Vitamin E is another ingredient I add for its skin moisturising and wound healing properties.

Lavender Wellness Essential Oil

Traditionally used in Aromatherapy:

  • To reduce the symptoms of stress;
  • To reduce the symptoms and occurrence of mild anxiety;
  • As a nervous system relaxant;
  • To calm nerves; and
  • As an antiseptic for minor cuts and abrasions.

The last one of these is the main reason I include it but the others are an added bonus.

Melrose Essential Oil Blend

Melrose™ is a blend of essential oils with powerful cleansing properties that supports the appearance of skin and can provide a protective barrier against skin challenges. When diffused, Melrose can help dispel odours. Named after the combination of Melaleuca and Rosemary, this calming and soothing blend can be added to cleaning agents for a natural boost, diffused to help clear negative emotions and vibrations, and can promote acceptance and balance.

ESSENTIAL OILS: Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tee Tree), Naouli, Rosemary, Clove
