Vanilla Essential Oil – Is There Such A Thing?

Vanilla essential oil from Young Living

Most Vanilla Essential Oil that is sold is synthetic. It is made in a lab to smell sickly sweet and contains lots of nasty ingredients. When I started making perfumes I wanted a vanilla that wasn’t toxic and wasn’t going to mess with my hormones so I started using a Clear Mexican Vanilla extract. Now while it did work and has a lovely real Vanilla aroma it didn’t mix that well with the other essential oils in my perfumes.

So you can imagine my excitement when Young Living finally released her own Vanilla Essential Oil.

But is there such a thing as Vanilla essential oil?

Vanilla is produced from Vanilla planifolia, an orchid that grows long vanilla bean pods. The process of obtaining Vanilla is extensive, as it can take up to four years for the vine to mature. The vine produces orchid blossoms that last only 24 hours and must be pollinated by hand within 8 to 12 hours for the bean pod to grow. The entire process—growing, pollinating, drying, curing, and preparing for export—takes around one year.

Young Living’s Vanilla is not strictly an extract or an absolute, both of which contain mostly alcohol and do not blend well with essential oils. Noticing these flaws in mainstream vanilla extracts and absolutes, the D. Gary Young Research Institute worked to find a vanilla product that would meet our Seed to Seal quality commitment and blend well with our essential oils. They searched for more than a year to find the right product, and by using a first-of-its-kind extraction method with the vanilla oleoresin and fractionated coconut oil, they finally found a Vanilla that is not only pure, but also diffuses and blends beautifully with essential oils.

With its warm, rich, slightly sweet aroma, vanilla is one of the most popular and recognisable fragrances throughout the world for a reason. Young Living’s exclusive Vanilla oleoresin has a gentle, welcoming personality with a balancing aroma that evokes pleasant memories when diffused.

How does Young Living source their Vanilla essential oil?

Extracted from beans grown in the northwestern region of Madagascar, our ethically sourced, pure Vanilla oleoresin is made with a unique extraction method developed for Young Living. This unique process helps our Vanilla retain its rich, classic aroma and blend especially well with Young Living essential oils. Obtaining just the right Vanilla oleoresin involves the removal of naturally sourced ethyl alcohol from French sugar beets, at which point the product is processed with fractionated coconut oil. While many vanilla products on the market are synthetic, Young Living Vanilla is pure and quality tested to meet our rigorous Seed to Seal quality commitment.

Vanilla has a pure, rich aroma that may change slightly as you use it in different ways. It also enhances and complements a wide variety of other aromas.
