Copaiba Essential Oil 5ml

Known for its gentle, woodsy aroma, Copaiba essential oil is a product of steam distilling the gum resin tapped from the Brazilian Copaifera reticulata tree. Natives in northern Brazil have used Copaiba oil and resin since at least the 16th century. With high levels of beta-caryophyllene and a uniquely sweet aromatic profile, Copaiba essential oil helps create a relaxing atmosphere when diffused or applied topically.

Its warm aroma also makes Copaiba a great addition to your daily routine and skin care. Add it to a neutral moisturiser to utilise its natural fragrance and moisturising properties or apply it to flex points following activity for an uplifting, comforting cool down.

What Can Copaiba Essential Oil Do For You?

Copaiba essential oil has a sweet aroma, but it’s not very strong, so I tend to use it most often topically rather than in my diffuser. Having said that, it is really good for quieting the mind and when feeling a little nervous. Copaiba essential oil is known for its high levels of beta-caryophyllene – when you have a minute Google the benefits of this, as I can’t go into them here.

Copaiba is also great to add to muscle rubs to help sooth tight muscles. I add Copaiba to other essential oils such as Lavender and German Chamomile to use when my skin, particularly on my face is ‘unhappy’.

Copaiba is a very powerful essential oil, and it makes a great companion to your skin care routine or fitness goals.

How is Copaiba Essential Oil Made?

Copaiba essential oil is tapped directly from the Copaiba tree. The essential oil is stored in the resin that the tree creates to protect itself. To obtain essential oils from resins, a process called tapping has to occur. The first stage of resin tapping involves wounding the tree, which causes distress and the tree reacts by secreting a resin to help heal its wound. Once the resin hardens, it is collected by hand and then distilled through a process called hydrodistillation to extract the essential oil.

In this process, the resin is immersed in boiling water that is in constant motion while steam is injected into the distillation chamber. The resinous gas is then released into the steam, which carries it to the condenser, where the steam and vapor are gradually cooled to a liquefied form. Finally, the water and oil travel into the separator so that the oil rises to the top of the water and be poured off into containers.

If done properly, tapping trees causes no harm to nature, and with our Seed to Seal® promise, we make sure to comply with the most responsible and sustainable sourcing practices available. This extraction process and where these oils are grown are why they are typically more expensive. The process to extract the oil requires more time and labour.

Is Copaiba a single essential oil or a blend?

Copaiba essential oil what is known as a single oil. This means there’s only oil from one plant species in the bottle. Young Living Copaiba essential oil is not an essential oil blend, which are made by blending essential oils from different plants. Gary Young researched different species and found Copaifera reticulata to be the best. Young Living have sold this Copaiba species as a single oil for nearly 10 years now.

Be aware – some essential oil companies are now blending a number of different species of Copaiba in the one bottle to save money, so always check the label for the botanical name, so you know what you’re getting.

Is Copaiba a magnifier of other essential oils?

When Gary Young stated that Copaiba essential oil is a magnifier I think we all got a little ahead of ourselves. Yes he is correct, but when you start to research how this oil and its individual components work, you will see that it magnifies within itself, not other oils.

One constituent in this essential oil magnifies another constituent within this oil (this pubmed study confirms this). Anyone who has done a true test with this oil will see that it is a powerful oil but by combining it with an oil like Joy or Peppermint, it does not make that blend or single oil become stronger as I think so many of us interpret that word to mean.

So, copaiba is a magnifier of itself and is best used to help calm and soothe ANY part of your body that needs extra attention…………
